Why Nest Family Counselling?

The choice of bird and nest imagery was very intentional when choosing a name for our therapy practice.

A nest is a symbol of home, safety, and nurturing. It can also represent new beginnings, growth, and the cycle of life.

The robin is a symbol of new beginnings and fresh starts. Its appearance in springtime is often seen as a sign of hope and renewal. In some cultures, the robin is also associated with joy and happiness. Its bright red breast is said to represent the life force and vitality of the bird.  In addition, the practice was also named after our founder, Robin!

Whether you are building your own nest, transitioning nests, turning into an empty nester or working to build a strong and safe nest on your own, we are here every step of the way.

The Origin Story of

Nest Family Counselling

The origin story of this therapy clinic begins with a woman who found herself on the cusp of change.   She had always been passionate about helping others, particularly individuals who were facing difficult transitions or challenges. However, it wasn't until life changed her, through choice and otherwise, that she truly understood the depth of support needed for individuals and families.

As she navigated the complexities of changing roles, she discovered how many layers were involved—emotional, psychological, and relational. During this time, she started to seek professional support. Still, she found that most therapy practices didn’t address or understand the unique challenges of binuclear families, untraditional family roles or life transitions comprehensively. The resources were either limited to one member of the family or didn’t take into account the entire family's journey as they navigate change. That’s when it clicked: families and individuals in transition needed a space where everyone—including biological parents, stepparents, children, or even extended family—could find the support they needed, together.

Fueled by this realization, she decided to open her clinic: the Nest. She envisioned a clinic that would cater specifically to supporting individuals and families going through unique changes and transitions such as remarriage, blending families, any major family change or life in general. She wanted a place where each member of the family could be supported in a way that acknowledged their individual needs, while also helping the family unit grow stronger as a whole.

She wanted a place where men and women could talk through their decision on whether or not to have children, where adults could talk through life stress and change, where couples could explore a world where their relationship could rebuild or a world where they would release their belonging to one another, where parents and co-parents could express their concerns and frustration, where stepparents could talk about grieving and navigate co-parent challenges, where teens and children could seek additional support and build confidence while life happened around them, where an entire family could seek support for life's curveballs.

In her clinic, the focus would be on creating a safe and empathetic environment where no one felt left out or unheard. The services offered not only included therapy for individuals, couples, and children but also family therapy and group support sessions. She was determined to create a holistic approach—one that recognized the unique emotional, psychological, and relational challenges that come with building a Nest.

Over time, the dream of this clinic became a reality for families experiencing transitions. The person who once felt isolated in their unique journey now helps others navigate their unique path and has surrounded herself with a dream team of amazing therapists who are dedicated to creating a safe place for the community to grow.  The practice flourished because it offered a space where families could embrace the challenges and changes they were facing, knowing that support was available for every single person involved.

Through her own experience, she created a space that helped others see that even the most challenging transitions could lead to beautiful new beginnings. â€‹

"Generally what happens between therapist and patient also plays out between the patient and the people in the outside world, and it's in the safe space of the therapy room that the patient can begin to understand why"
