Robin
Canadian Certified Counsellor

I am the Owner and founder of Nest Family Counselling!  My work is primarily focused on relationships: the relationship you have with yourself and the relationship you have with others.

Like many of you, I wear many hats in life.  My favourites include Wife, Stepmom, Counsellor and World Traveller! These roles help to provide a layer of empathy and understanding.

I am down to earth and understand real-life challenges.  I utilize both humour and honesty in session.  I am collaborative and work together with clients to create personalized plans and provide tools to guide you forward and help you achieve your desired goals.

I specialize in Separation, Divorce, Marriage, Marriage Reconciliation and Bi-nuclear families (blended and stepfamilies).  I subscribe to a strength-based approach and believe that to help others, we must first help ourselves.  I use Cognitive-Behavioural strategies in combination with narrative therapy to explore deconstructive beliefs that are negatively influencing multiple aspects of your life.

I am a Canadian Certified Counselling (10003364).  I have a Masters in Counselling Psychology and a Gottman Method Couples Therapy trained clinician that is approved  to administer the Relationship Checkup and use Gottman resources and tools to help clients and couples discover areas of strength and opportunities for improvement.

I work with Couples, Individuals, Families, and Co-parents to build healthier and happier relationships.

Training and Education

I hold a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.  Post graduation, I have invested in additional training meant to build competency in the areas of work that I love to do (working with relationships, divorce, separation, co-parents, change, personal growth, etc.).

I have Gottman training in their foundation practices and additional training in dealing with affairs and trauma.  I have also taken additional training with the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts to help clients create effective parenting plans, and help to support parenting coordination and conflict resolution skills.

My work experience includes private practice and local volunteering within the walk-in counseling initiative provided by Strathcona County Family and Community Services.

“In my early professional years I was asking the question: How can I treat, or cure, or change this person? Now I would phrase the question in this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for his own personal growth?”

My History

Clients come into my office and share their lives so beautifully, so I think it's only appropriate that I let clients know a little about me as well!

I grew up in rural Manitoba in a farming community and many of my values and beliefs were formed in those early years experiences.  In early adulthood, I pursued post-secondary education. Life carried me from Manitoba to Alberta and back again.  I finally settled in Alberta in 2013.

At that time I decided to pursue a career that better aligned with my interest in helping others and contributing to building a strong community.

I live and work in Sherwood Park and spend my time outside of the office pursuing passion projects and creative endeavors, dating my husband, supporting my stepson in his many interests, and spending time with friends.

My winters are spent reading and traveling and my summers are filled with adventure and time with family.
